France Field, established near Colón, served as an early U.S. military airfield in the Panama Canal Zone. Operational from the 1920s, it played a key role in defending the Atlantic entrance to the Canal during World War II. Named in honor of Major Reuben H. France, it later transitioned to Panamanian control, marking its place in the region's aviation history.
